Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a bulldozer operation against illegal encroachments, in the characteristic style of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In Kamrup district of Assam, some people were illegally residing on government land and were also engaged in fish farming in a pond. However, the government bulldozer has destroyed everything, leaving these people destitute.

Around 27 houses were demolished in this bulldozer operation. According to reports by Zee News, there are allegations that some outsiders, mostly Muslims, had illegally occupied government land, which has now been evicted.
In the affected area of Assam, the demolished land included makeshift homes and fish ponds, and residents say they had lived there for 15 years. Residents say that if they had been given prior notice, they could have removed their belongings. While the administration maintains that notices were issued, locals claim that they were only provided with them after the demolition had already taken place.
According to reports by Zee News, allegations are emerging that the government is targeting illegal homes of “Miya Muslims” while similar encroachments by Hindu families in the area have gone unaddressed.
