Cabinet approves Rs 70,125 crore outlay for PM’s rural roads scheme

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday, September 11, approved the extension of road connectivity to 25,000 unconnected homes over the next four years.

The Cabinet has approved an outlay of ₹70,125 crore for the period 2024-25 (April-March) to 2028-29, to be implemented by the Rural Development Department under the new Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana—IV.

Of the total outlay, states will contribute ₹21,038 crore, while the remaining ₹49,087 crore will be provided by the Centre.

The scheme aims to connect 25,000 homes with a population of over 500 people in plains regions and over 250 in northeastern and hill states, union territories, tribal areas and deserts.

The plan includes the construction of 62,500 kilometers of all-weather roads and bridges to these areas.

The Government hopes that these new roads will facilitate socio-economic development in the target areas.
