Case registered against dozens of BJP members under non-bailable section

An FIR has been lodged under the non-bailable section at Asansol South police station against BJP district secretary Abhijit Rai, Ram Adhikari and BJP Asansol Mandal 3 president Pranab Mukherjee and 15-20 others. Based on the complaint of Ananya De, Sub-Inspector, Asansol South police station, a case has been registered against the said leaders under Section 189 (2) of the BNS, Section 30A/31/32 of the Police Act and Section 8B of the NH Act at Asansol South police station, case number 292/24. A case has been registered. The said leader had surrounded the Asansol South police station on Friday evening as part of the BJP’s statewide programme. During this time, these people also blocked GT Road, on which the police had to use force. Madhusudan Garai, senior advocate at the Asansol District Court, said that of all the above sections, only one, 8B of the NH Act, is non-bailable. It provides for imprisonment up to five years and a fine. All other sections are bailable.

It is noteworthy that the BJP state police station gherao programme on the RG tax issue took place on Friday (August 23). During this time, the above-mentioned BJP leaders along with their supporters surrounded the Asansol South police station and demonstrated in the evening.

Sub-Inspector Ms. De said in her complaint that at 5 pm, suddenly, without any information or permission, some BJP people gathered in front of the police station to intervene on the RG tax issue. In which 15 to 20 people including Abhijeet Rai, Ram Adhikari and Pranab Mukherjee were included. These people had illegally gathered in front of the police station. They were asked not to agitate by gathering in front of the police station without permission, they did not hear anything and proceeded to the middle of the GT Road opposite. Which caused inconvenience and inconvenience to the public. For the convenience of the public and to maintain law and order, many efforts were made to remove them from the road but when they did not budge, minimum force was used.

Based on this complaint, a case was registered against BJP leaders and workers under non-bailable section. Even before this, during the demonstration at Barabani police station, a case was registered against BJP district secretary Abhijeet Rai under non-bailable sections. He is currently out on bail.
