Caught on camera: Uttar Pradesh police officer beats up journalist for questioning missing ID plate

Jaunpur: A TV journalist claimed he was assaulted by a police officer when he questioned him about the lack of a name tag. The incident was recorded on camera and has been circulating on the Internet.

The video, shared by Vishnu Raghav, includes the caption: “When I asked the officer about the badge, I received a hard slap on my ear. The case is from Sureri police station area in Jaunpur (sic).”

The video begins with the journalist asking the police officer why he was not wearing a name badge. While one officer shows him his name badge, another refuses to explain and instead slaps the journalist and verbally abuses him.

The video has sparked outrage among Internet users and has accumulated more than 165.4 thousand views.

One user wrote: “The National Human Rights Commission is requested to properly investigate the video circulating on social media and consider the measures that the administration should take.”

The Jaunpur police also saw the video and assured that further investigations will be carried out. Their comment read, “On taking cognizance of the matter, the Jaunpur Superintendent of Police has handed over the investigation of the case to the Deputy Superintendent of Police. After investigation, necessary legal action will be taken based on the investigation report.”
