CBI raids premises of Sandeep Ghosh, director of RG Kar Medical Hospital and Forensic Medicine Demonstrator.

Calcutta : CBI raided the premises of Sandeep Ghosh, former director of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Dr Debashish Som, a forensic medicine and toxicology demonstrator, on Sunday morning. This raid has been conducted in view of corruption in the hospital. The investigating agency registered an FIR against them yesterday and has started a probe into the matter.

How many places have been raided?

CBI officials said that a total of 14 locations of the accused and his associates have been raided. He said that on the directions of the Calcutta High Court, CBI has registered cases of murder and alleged financial irregularities. It is noteworthy that RGKar Medical College is in the news after the murder and rape of a junior doctor at the hospital. An accused Sanjay Roy has been arrested in this case.

Who filed the complaint?

Former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Medical Hospital, Akhtar Ali, filed a complaint alleging corruption and financial irregularities in the hospital and demanded an inquiry by the ED. He had given many evidences of this. In his complaint, he mentioned many serious issues such as health, safety and misuse of government funds. He said that he first filed his complaint with the West Bengal Police but did not get justice. After which the court took cognizance of the matter and directed the CBI to investigate. While giving directions, Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj said that the matter is serious and hence should be handed over to the CBI.

What kind of allegations have been made against Sandeep Ghosh?

Earlier, the Supreme Court had also raised questions over the working style of the former director of RG Medical Hospital. It had slammed the hospital management and the government. Sandeep Ghosh has been accused of many things like trafficking in unclaimed bodies, irregularities in appointments and misappropriation of commissions. Following which the CBI also questioned him.
