Latest news from the 7th Pay Commission: Central government employees who are waiting for an announcement regarding a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA), here comes a big update for them. This time, they may have to wait a little longer for their DA hike announcement. Earlier, reports suggested that the Central government might announce the DA hike in the first week of September, which seems unlikely now, and as per the latest reports, the Centre is likely to announce the hike closer to the Haryana assembly election date to gain some political advantage. As per the EC announcement, Haryana will go to polls on October 5.

If we look at the trend of the past few years, the DA hike is announced every year a week or a fortnight before the Diwali festival, but this time it is likely to be announced a little earlier due to elections.

DA increase announcement likely before Assembly elections

Reports suggest that the Centre may announce a hike in DA for central government employees and pensioners in the last week of September, just a few days before the Haryana Assembly elections. Once announced, over 10 million serving and retired employees could see their DA or dearness relief increased by up to 4%.

It should be noted that the central government usually increases the DA and DR for employees and pensioners twice a year (once in January and once in July) and the announcements are usually made in early March and October.

When will DA arrears be released?

Amidst these developments, central government employees are awaiting another announcement regarding DA arrears. If the DA hike is announced by the end of September, then the central government can expect an increase in salary/pension for the month of October, which means that employees would receive 3 months’ arrears i.e. from July to September.
