Centre signs peace agreement with two insurgents groups of Tripura

The central government, Tripura government, National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) signed an MoU in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and others. The agreement is aimed at ending the violence and bringing about a “lasting peace” in the northeastern state.

An official statement said the Ministry of Home Affairs has been working tirelessly to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed Northeast, free from extremism, violence and conflict. The government has signed 12 important agreements in the Northeast region, out of which three relate to Tripura, the statement added.

The Interior Minister said that a The Rs 2,500 crore development package announced by the central government has been implemented in the Northeast.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that with the signing of the agreement, over 328 armed cadres will join the mainstream. “It is a matter of joy for all of us that they have given up their arms and joined the mainstream and expressed their commitment to the development of the entire Tripura. Ever since PM Modi became the prime minister of the country, through peace and dialogue, he has presented the vision of a capable and developed Northeast to the country,” he said.

Chief Minister Saha thanked Shah for a dozen peace agreements that were signed in the Northeast in the last 10 years. “It is a matter of great satisfaction that members of NLFT and ATTF have decided to join the mainstream to participate in the development process spearheaded by our Prime Minister. The future of the entire people of Tripura is bright under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the guidance of Amit Shah,” he said.
