Decentralized oracle network Chainlink today announced that Soneium, the next-generation Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, has joined the Chainlink Scale program, granting it access to Chainlink data feeds on Soneium’s Minato testnet.

Chainlink data sources, trusted by numerous entities such as Base, Star networkand Sonic Laboratories (formerly known as Fantom Foundation), provides secure, tamper-proof access to real-world data essential for the development of decentralized applications (dApps) on Soneium.

The strategic partnership also includes the integration of the Chainlink Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as Soneium’s canonical cross-chain infrastructure, Chainlink stated.

According to Jun Watanabe, President of Sony Block Solutions Labs, Chainlink’s reputation and reliability ensure that Soneium users benefit from a robust and secure platform. Watanabe believes that Chainlink’s technology can help Soneium deliver a superior experience to its developers and end users.

“Soneium is designed for developers and has the ability to handle high levels of traffic, support complex applications, and provide a seamless onboarding experience. Chainlink’s industry-standard infrastructure ensures that we provide the best possible experience for the Soneium ecosystem,” Watanabe said.

Released In August 2024, Soneium will become part of Sony’s mission to make Web3 a part of everyday life for billions of people. The platform aims to deliver cutting-edge solutions to real-world challenges, fostering the growth and maturity of the blockchain industry.

“Sony has long been a pioneer in Web2, and with the recent launch of Soneium has taken a leading role as a pioneer in the next iteration of Web2, the verifiable web,” said Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs, speaking about Sony’s involvement in Web2 and its leadership role in the next generation of the internet.

“We are excited to see Soneium join the Chainlink Scale Program and choose Chainlink CCIP as its canonical cross-chain infrastructure,” Eid said.

Dedicated to supporting the development of blockchain and layer-2 ecosystems, the Chainlink Scale program has welcomed several blockchain ecosystems to participate in its initiative, such as Avalanche, Metis, and Starknet, to name a few.

By covering the operational costs of Chainlink oracle networks, these ecosystems can access high-quality oracle services at low cost. As these ecosystems mature, user fees from decentralized applications can gradually cover operational costs.

Chainlink stated that its CCIP is backed by battle-tested Chainlink infrastructure that has enabled over $14 trillion in transaction value while maintaining level-five cross-chain security and unparalleled reliability. The Risk Management Network plays a key role in the security of CCIP as it continuously monitors and verifies cross-chain operations to detect erroneous activity.

Adopting Chainlink infrastructure demonstrates Soneium’s commitment to providing developers with the best tools and resources.
