Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has said he will not quit politics and said the option of forming a new political outfit was always open to him.
Soren said he was firm on his plans after “facing humiliation at the hands of the JMM leaders,” a party to which the veteran leader claimed to have dedicated his entire life.
“It is a new chapter in my life. I am not leaving politics as I have received a lot of love and support from my followers. The chapter is over, I can form a new party,” the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader said shortly after reaching his ancestral village Jhilingora in Seraikela-Kharsawan district after midnight on Tuesday.
The 67-year-old tribal leader has earned the nickname “The Tiger of Jharkhand” for his contribution to the struggle to create a separate state in the 1990s.
Jharkhand was created from the southern part of Bihar in the year 2000.
“No one from the JMM contacted me. This is the land of Jharkhand… I have been fighting since my student life. I was involved in the agitation for a separate state of Jharkhand under the leadership of party leader Shibu Soren,” Champai Soren said.
The JMM leader said he could join forces with any group if he finds a like-minded organisation.
“I posted what I thought was appropriate. The whole country knows what I thought,” she said, referring to her August 18 post on X.
Amid speculation that he might join the BJP, the veteran politician said he experienced “bitter humiliation” as chief minister, forcing him to look for an alternative path.
“After so much humiliation, I was forced to look for an alternative path,” Champai Soren said, alleging that all his government programmes in the first week of July were abruptly cancelled by the party leadership without his knowledge.
