Chief Minister did not allow live broadcasts or videography, meeting was cancelled and doctors’ strike continues

RG tax scandal. The junior doctors returned from the CM residence in Kalighat to the protest site in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Once again, a meeting between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the junior doctors could not be held to resolve the ongoing impasse surrounding the RG tax scandal. Before the meeting, permission was sought from the junior doctors for live streaming and videography. But the CM did not allow it. Due to this reason the meeting could not be held even on Saturday. According to information, the junior doctor had reached the CM residence on Harish Mukherjee Road in Kalighat at 6.39 pm. But at 9.20 pm he received information that the meeting would not be held anymore. Meanwhile, on one side, the Chief Minister was waiting for the junior doctors near the gate of her house. On the other hand, the junior doctor was waiting for the meeting in the rain. The period of tension between both sides continued for hours. The state government did not provide live telecast or videography to the junior doctors. On the other hand, the junior doctors also insisted on the demand for transparency. The result was that after Nabanna, the meeting was not held at Kalighat as well. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee came out of the house and spoke to the protesters. She asked them to avoid getting wet in the rain. CM also invited him for tea. But despite all this, Mamata refused the request for live telecast or videography. Mamta said, You guys are disrespecting me. Before this I was waiting for the meeting for three days. Forget politics and meet me. She said that they will get the video related to the meeting but not yet. But after the meeting Mamta was ready to give the minutes. She had also said that it would be signed by both the parties. Mamta told the junior doctors that it is not possible to accept all their demands. CM said that the video will be given only after getting permission from the Supreme Court. After meeting the junior doctors, the CM returned to her residence. It is noteworthy that Minister of State for Health (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, Home Minister Nandani Chakraborty, Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar etc. were also present at the CM residence for the meeting with the junior doctors. As soon as the CM entered his house, soon after, around 9.07 pm, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Chief Secretary and Home Secretary left the CM residence one by one. The junior doctor had also given up their insistence on live telecast, Arnab Mukherjee, junior doctor said, “We demanded video recording for transparency. We came to discuss. But we are very disappointed over the cancellation of the meeting.” He said that the CM was talking about giving minutes, so we had given up our insistence on live telecast after meeting each other. We were ready to hold the meeting even with the minutes. After this we presented our point before Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya. But we were told that the meeting is not possible now. You go back. Otherwise you will just be called and removed from here. That means force will be used to remove the doctors. We went back to the protest site. After returning there, the next decision will be taken after meeting the junior doctors. The senior doctor will do the pendown in Kolkata on the 16th. The next hearing of the RG tax case will be held in the Supreme Court on September 17. Before the hearing, the All India Junior and Resident Doctors Joint Action Forum (AIJF) announced the signing on September 16 from 12 noon to 1 pm. On the request of AIJF, the doctors’ organisation Service Doctor Forum and Medical Service Centre of the state decided to do pendown for one hour at the scheduled time on Monday.
