Chief Justice of the country DY Chandrachud on Sunday said he had prayed to God for the resolution of the dispute between Ram Janmabhoomi and Babri Masjid and said if there is faith, God finds a way. He addressed the residents of his native village Kanhersar in Khed Taluka where he was felicitated.
“Often cases come to us (for a decision), but we are not able to reach a solution,” he said. Something similar happened during Ayodhya (dispute between Ram Janmabhoomi and Babri Masjid), which was in front of me for three months. I sat before God and told him that I have to find a solution.” The Chief Justice (CJI) said, “Believe me, if you have faith, God will always find a way.”
What happened on November 9, 2019?
A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the country’s then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, resolved the contentious issue that was more than a century old on November 9, 2019, paving the way for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The court had also ruled that the mosque would be built on an alternative five-acre plot in Ayodhya itself.
Justice Chandrachud was part of the bench that delivered the historic verdict. The Chief Justice visited the Ram temple in Ayodhya in July this year and offered prayers. The consecration ceremony of the Ram temple was held on January 22 this year in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
