Cloud adoption outpaces AI; investments are on the rise, says Wipro report | News

Most organizations report that their cloud adoption is ahead of their AI adoption.

Cloud adoption in India is outpacing AI adoption as more than half of the organizations surveyed plan to increase cloud investment, IT major Wipro said in a report.

The Pulse of Cloud: Wipro FullStride Cloud Quarterly Report July 2024 drew insights from over 500 senior executives and decision-makers across mid-market and large enterprises across North America, the UK, Germany, France and Switzerland between May and June 2024.

“The majority of organizations (55 percent) report that their cloud adoption is ahead of their AI adoption, while 35 percent say they are moving at the same pace with both technologies.

“Fifty-four percent of organizations plan to increase investment in hybrid cloud and 56 percent plan to increase investment in public cloud,” the report notes.

Only 10 percent of respondents reported that their AI adoption is outpacing cloud.

β€œAt Wipro, we view cloud economics as a smart management strategy that can better manage costs as generative AI inevitably drives up spending,” said Jo Debecker, Managing Partner and Global Head, Wipro FullStride Cloud.

AI/GenAI applications (54 percent) were the top drivers of cloud investment, followed by expanded cloud infrastructure (47 percent) and growing data demands (43 percent).

“The emergence of AI/GenAI as a key driver reflects the growing importance of these technologies across all industries. AI requires significant cloud computing resources and data, so organizations with an established cloud infrastructure are best positioned to rapidly adopt and deploy AI solutions,” the report states.
