Complaint filed against TMC MP Lovely Maitra over her comment that doctors have become butchers

The incident came to light after a Indian People’s Party (BJP) Frontman Keya Ghosh shared the video of Lovely Maitra and said, “TMC MP Lovely Maitra is now comparing doctors to butchers! I sincerely hope that if God forbid Lovely Moitra falls ill, she does not go to any of these ‘butchers’ for treatment. Also, did I mention that her husband is an IPS officer working for the TMC government?

In Lovely’s alleged video, the TMC An MP can be heard saying: “Every day, doctors are being turned into butchers. What are they doing in the name of protest? The poorest of the poor, who come from rural areas and cannot afford treatment in private hospitals, are suffering due to lack of medical care in public hospitals. They are not getting any treatment. Are these people human? Are these people human? Doctors are being turned into butchers.”

Ghosh also shared another video in which he accuses Lovely of threatening the protesting doctors. In the post, he said, “The legislator did not hold back in calling the doctors butchers. She even claimed that she knew how to ‘pull down’ the fingers pointed at the doctors.” Mama Banerjee.”

TMC React to Lovely’s comments

After the big fuss over Lovely’s comment, TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee has warned his party members to avoid fuelling anger.

“Public representatives from all parties need to be more HUMBLE and UNDERSTANDING. I urge everyone at @AITCofficial not to speak ill of anyone from the MEDICAL FRATERNITY OR CIVIL SOCIETY. Everyone has the right to protest and express themselves. This is what sets West Bengal apart from other Indian People’s Party (BJP)“Bengal must stand united in this fight and not stop until the perpetrators are punished and a time-bound ANTI-RAPE Act is enacted by both the states and the Union government,” she said in a post.

Clarification of charming issues

As his comments sparked massive controversy, the TMC MLA was forced to issue a clarification.

She said, “Doctors are gods and the poor see them as such. However, given the nature of their protest, I hope they continue to be recognised as doctors. Why are they going to Lalbazar instead of the CBI? We too want capital punishment.”

This comes as protests by doctors across the country continue despite a Supreme Court plea for them to return to work. On Tuesday, doctors in Kolkata formed a 13-km-long human chain.
