After Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot sanctioned a chargesheet against CM Siddaramaiah, several BJP leaders demanded his resignation in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, leading to speculations surrounding the post of Karnataka Chief Minister.

Amid speculation, several Karnataka leaders also expressed interest in the race for the Chief Minister’s post.

Reacting to this issue, BJP leader R Ashoka said that Congress leaders are more confident than BJP leaders that CM Siddaramaiah will resign and a race is on as everyone is putting forward their claims.

Addressing the speculation, Congress and BJP leader in the Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka said, “More than the BJP, Congress leaders are more confident that Siddaramaiah will step down. An election race is on and everyone is clamouring to be the chief minister. There is no change taking place in Karnataka.”

Karnataka BJP MP CT Ravi said, “All Congress party leaders know that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be removed. Many Congress party leaders are claiming to be the Chief Minister of Karnataka.”

BJP leader Dr CN Ashwath Narayan has challenged the Congress and said that if the Congress party has any respect for the Constitution, democracy or the law of the country, then it should take action against its CM Siddaramaiah.

BJP leader Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said, “Having aspirations is a good thing, but making statements against others, taking the piss out of each other is not fair… This shows differences in the Congress party. People are preparing for a replacement. This is a good development. Since the present Chief Minister is facing many allegations of corruption, he should resign. The Congress should have taken an immediate decision to remove the present Chief Minister. We respect the law of the country. If the Congress party has any respect for the Constitution, democracy or the law of the country, it should take action against its Chief Minister.”

Earlier on August 31, the Karantaka Governor’s office had told the state high court that the sanction granted to prosecute Karnataka Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah in the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam was done after “application of mind”.

On the same day, amid the row over Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s permission for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s arraignment, state ministers and legislators staged a ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ protest.

The Congress has accused the Governor of discriminatory behaviour, claiming that there are other cases pending before the Governor, but he has not taken any decision on them.

The protesters also demanded prosecution of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy in a mining leasing case.

Thaawarchand Gehlot sanctioned prosecution against Siddaramaiah in a case of alleged corruption in allotment of land to his wife by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
