He said the party believes in democracy unlike the BJP, which he said was engaged in “sabotage and bargaining” of elected representatives.
“We are not dependent on mistakes like the BJP’s. The BJP has an absolute majority for the selection of a Rajya Sabha candidate. We believe in democracy. We do not believe in sabotage or horse-trading. Therefore, whoever the BJP fields, he will be elected unopposed,” Dotasra said.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event marking the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Dotasra criticised the central government, saying the Constitution, democracy and reservation are in danger. He said those in power are only working to “grab the presidency” and added that central agencies are being “misused” to grab power in the country.
He said there was a civil war-like situation in the country and the prime minister was “busy” on foreign tours, adding that India’s relations with neighbouring countries were not good.
The state Congress chief said the BJP has a motto of “One Nation, One Election” but elections were recently announced in two of the four states where elections are due. By-elections were to be held in many places along with six Assembly seats in the state but it is not known when they will be held, he added.
He also asked the Centre to clarify its stand on reservation. He said people from SC-ST categories are agitated as the government has not clarified its stand on the issue.
He said that Congress’s position is clear: it will not allow any kind of manipulation of the reserve and will not allow it to be weakened.
Dotasra said the law and order situation has deteriorated in the state. According to him, rapes and murders are taking place every day.
