What is a butter board?
A butter board is room temperature butter spread on a serving board and topped with herbs and spices, spreads, or salt and pepper. It’s served with crackers or bread that can be mixed or dipped in the butter for a burst of flavor. And if you love trying something out of the ordinary, you might love pairing it with bagels or waffles.
It is a very simple method that anyone can recreate with little improvisation or adding something to their liking.
Ingredients
1 stick softened unsalted butter1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt1/2 freshly ground black pepperZest of 1/2 citrus fruit (lemon, orange or lime)1/4 cup microgreens or edible flowers1 tablespoon honeyChopped nuts or seeds
Method
Step 1: Using a knife or spatula, begin spreading 1/2 inch of softened butter on a clean, dry board. Use gentle back-and-forth motions and swirl the butter like an artist to make it look eye-catching.
Step 2: Light the Salt Bae on you and evenly sprinkle flaky sea salt followed by lemon zest over the surface of the butter.
Step 3: Colors in food make it more appetizing, so decorate with microgreens.
Step 4: Drizzle spreadable ingredients over all ingredients, such as honey.
Step 5: Serve your butter board creation with bread and crackers.
History
The butter board was originally created by Portland chef and cookbook author Joshua McFaddens. However, the butter board obsession started on Tik Tok after a video by Brooklyn-based content creator Justine Doiron went viral.
