Former West Indies fast bowler Curtly Ambrose has picked Indian batsman Virat Kohli among the batsmen he would love to play against from the modern-day group of players. Ambrose is still regarded as one of the most lethal fast bowlers to have played the game, with 630 wickets to his account in his international career, including 405 in Tests at an average of just 20.99.
Ambrose, who had created problems for many batsmen of his era, spoke about the top players he would love to play against from the current generation. The former West Indies player stated that the likes of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and England’s Joe Root were players he would love to play against.
“Virat, Smith, Root,” Ambrose was quoted as saying by ANI.
Over the years, Kohli, Root and Smith have made a name for themselves and emerged as the best batsmen for their respective countries. Kohli has etched his name in the history books after racking up the most number of centuries in ODIs and being the leading run-scorer in the T20 World Cup, while Root and Smith, on the other hand, scored a lot of runs in the red-ball format.
“Yes, I do feel that way sometimes. I have been playing cricket for a long time. Most of the time, if you ask someone who their favourite cricketer is, they will say batsmen. I have played some fantastic matches with them and I admire them. But as a former fast bowler, I am inclined towards spinners. Wasim Akram is one of my favourite fast bowlers,” he added.
Notably, former Pakistan stalwart Wasim Akram is ranked sixth on the list of most wickets in international cricket, having taken 916 wickets to his name, including 502 wickets in 356 ODIs he played and 414 scalps in 104 Test matches he featured in.
