This is the second time this year that the Assam government has increased DA for its employees. In March, the state government implemented a 4% increase in dearness allowance, raising it from 46% to 50%.
At a press conference after the cabinet meeting, Sarma also announced the dismissal of the $
15,000 monthly salary cap under the Assam Tea Gardens Provident Fund scheme, which ensures that all tea garden workers, irrespective of their income, are eligible for provident fund benefits.
Additionally, the cabinet approved several key measures, including:
- Signing an MoU with Reliance Bio Energy to explore opportunities in the compressed biogas sector.
- Appointment of renowned archer Jayanta Talukdar as Deputy Superintendent of Police.
- an investment of $205 crore in Numaligarh Refinery Ltd, along with multiple road and irrigation projects under NABARD.
- Assignment of $175 crore for procurement of medicines in government hospitals and $150 crore for infrastructure development of state police.
- Formation of an election department in Tamulpur district.
The Cabinet also approved a one-time concession of $Between 25,000 and around 2,000 committees organize ‘Raas’ celebrations, with performances based on the life of Lord Krishna.
The state will observe ‘Bhasa Gaurav Week’ from November 3 to 9, celebrating the recent designation of Assamese as a classical language. Educational institutions and social organizations will host events and the State plans to send thousands of letters of gratitude to the Prime Minister during the week.
