Deepak Shenoy’s Capitalmind gets SEBI approval to launch mutual funds

Bengaluru-based Capitalmind Financial Services has received preliminary approval from SEBI to launch a mutual fund. The approval coincides with the company’s 10th anniversary.

As a portfolio manager, Capitalmind manages over ₹2,200 crore in assets for over 1,150 clients.

Since its inception, the firm has doubled its assets under management every financial year, thanks to portfolio performance and consistent capital inflows.

According to the Portfolio Managers Association of India, Capitalmind ranks as the 25th largest portfolio management service by AUM in discretionary equity strategies.

Capitalmind started as a blog of Deepak Shenoy, Focusing on investment and personal finance.

The firm expanded its offering to include equity research, model portfolios and a PMS in 2017, followed by an AIF in 2024.

Over the years, Capitally It has served over 20,000 retail investors and 1,350 PMS clients including HNIs and UHNIs.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Deepak Shenoy discussed the Indian market and his outlook on various sectors.

He highlighted that the total market in India is worth ₹60 lakh crore and is expected to grow to around 50% of GDP.

He sees opportunities in the AMC space and believes there is room for more players.

Shenoy noted that investors are cautious in the short term, but highlighted the availability of cheap stocks in the market.

He expressed a lack of interest in metals, citing cooling inflation and the cyclicality of the sector.

Instead, it prefers oil marketing companies (OMCs) over refineries, considering that supply characteristics are favorable for the growth of OMCs.
