Defending ISL Cup champions Mumbai City FC are looking for their first win of the season against Jamshedpur FC

Mumbai City FC will travel to take on Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday, September 21 at 5:30 pm IST. Historically, Jamshedpur FC have struggled in their recent encounters with Mumbai, having won just one of their last four ISL meetings. This is a significant contrast to their previous dominance, where they claimed five wins from 10 encounters.

Jamshedpur FC manager Khalid Jamil boasts an impressive record against Mumbai City FC, having lost just one of his five ISL encounters with the Islanders. However, that defeat came in their most recent encounter, a 3-0 loss in March 2024.

“We have to believe in ourselves and in what we can do. We have to prepare ourselves and we must not be overconfident. The next match is also important at our stadium. We have to be prepared and we must get positive results,” said Jamil.

“I believe in the quality of our team”

Mumbai City FC head coach Petr Kratky praised the character of his players after the tight draw against the Mariners. He encouraged them to keep working hard as he believes the quality of his ranks will reflect in the results soon.

“Character is one of the most important things we want in the dressing room because there will be difficult moments during the season. But we have to keep working hard and our quality will show at the end because I think we have quality in the team and we have shown it once again,” said Kratky.

“I wouldn’t say that playing away from home is a pressure. It’s a challenge that every footballer has to face. In the end, we want the fans to enjoy tomorrow’s game, but we hope to win the match,” added Kratky.

Jamshedpur FC attacking midfielder Javi Hernandez is now playing for his fifth ISL club, the second-highest scoring foreign player in the competition’s history after Marcelinho (6). He has scored 21 goals, provided 16 assists and created 1.58 goal-scoring chances in each game of his 100 ISL appearances. Hernandez will want to get off to a flying start against the Islanders.

Mumbai City FC’s Tiri will be eager to showcase his skills against his former team. The centre-back made two interceptions, three recoveries, won four duels and completed five clearances against the Mariners. He also scored in the 70th minute, showing his utility in attack.
