Kyiv: India Deputy National Security Advisor Pavan Kapoor has held talks with President of Ukraine Volodymyr ZelenskyThe prime minister’s top aide Andriy Yermak is in kyiv and the focus of the meeting is said to be on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned trip to the Eastern European country this month.
According to a statement issued by kyiv on Saturday, Yermak stressed the importance of restoring a “just peace” in Ukraine and of “India’s participation in this process.” He also expressed hope that Modi could join this effort. “Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak met with Deputy National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of India Pavan Kapoor,” the statement read.
“Andriy Yermak described the situation at the front and the shelling of civilian infrastructure, in particular the Russian attack on Kostyantynivka,” he added. People familiar with the matter said the two sides also discussed Modi’s planned trip to kyiv later this month.
The prime minister is due to visit the Ukrainian capital for talks with Zelensky amid renewed global efforts to chart a path to ending Russia’s war on Ukraine. The proposed visit is being planned around Ukraine’s National Day on August 24, and the prime minister could also travel to Poland as part of the two-country tour.
However, there is no official announcement regarding this yet.
In June, Modi held talks with Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy’s Puglia region. At the meeting, Modi conveyed to the Ukrainian president that India would continue to do everything possible to support a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict and that the path to peace is through “dialogue and diplomacy.”
Modi also told Zelensky that India believes in a “human-centric” approach to finding a solution to the conflict in Ukraine. At the meeting, the Ukrainian president invited the prime minister to visit kyiv. India has maintained that the conflict in Ukraine should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
