85% of Indians are planning or have already had a destination wedding. Gen Z, in particular, is leading the way: 49% are considering getting married in a spectacular resort destination, compared to 33% of millennials. This younger generation is drawn to the adventure and uniqueness that such celebrations offer.

Survey data reveals that a whopping 66% of respondents in India are all for hosting their own extravagant pre-wedding festivities, reflecting the grandeur associated with Indian weddings. The new trend is all about the abundance of pre-wedding celebrations! If Indian couples wanted to indulge in their dream celebrations, 33% would opt for a weekend getaway with family and friends, while 32% dream of partying on a cruise with their crew. Meanwhile, 29% imagine an Italian-style soiree and 26% would head to concerts with their group for the ultimate pre-wedding celebration. Indian couples are leaving no stone unturned in creating unforgettable pre-wedding experiences.

Commenting on the findings, Mohit Joshi, Skyscanner’s Destination and Travel Trends Expert, said: “Destination weddings are taking Indian couples by storm, turning travel dreams into spectacular celebrations. Recent high-profile weddings have inspired more Indians to celebrate their wedding milestones with memorable celebrations like destination weddings. Our research found that couples are prioritising unique experiences and are willing to invest more to create celebrations that truly reflect their aspirations. But it’s not just about splurging – they’re carefully planning every detail, balancing grand gestures with smart choices.”

Indians are increasingly opting for destination weddings, with Asia being the top choice. Thailand, Japan and the Maldives are especially popular due to their stunning scenery and affordability. Europe, with its romantic charm, is also a favourite destination.

Goa, Dubai, Bali and Bangkok are the top choices for Indian couples. Goa offers a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement, while Dubai’s glamorous cityscape and opulent venues are ideal for those looking for a lavish celebration. Bali and Bangkok, on the other hand, offer tropical ambiance and enriching cultural experiences.

Quiet beach, royal palaces or picturesque mountains?

Respondents envision a variety of dream wedding settings. Beach celebrations, ceremonies in royal palaces, bespoke celebrations in picturesque locations and sumptuous events in vibrant cities are all popular choices. Mountain settings are also sought after for their stunning views.

Nearly half of Indian couples are willing to significantly increase their wedding budget for a destination wedding, highlighting its importance.
