Dharambir takes gold, Pranav Soorma silver in men’s mace throw at Paris 2024 Paralympics – India TV

Dharmbir and Pranav Sooram added two more medals to India’s record with a double podium finish in the men’s club throw F51 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Wednesday, September 4. Dharambir clinched a gold medal and Pranav bagged a silver to take India’s medal tally to 24 at the 17th Summer Paralympic Games.

Dharambir, 35, set a new Asian record by clearing 34.92 metres in his fifth attempt. He was the first competitor to reach the final and managed to hold on to his lead to claim his first ever gold medal at an international tournament.

Pranav, a gold medallist at the 2022 Asian Games, came close to breaking Dharambir’s mark but settled for a throw of 34.59m to claim the silver medal. India’s third entrant Amit Kumar finished 10th with his best throw of 23.96m at the iconic Stade de France.

Two-time Paralympic gold medallist and reigning world champion Zeljko Dimitrijevic of Serbia finished third on the podium with his personal best throw of 34.18m.

Meanwhile, Dharambir and Pranav Soorma’s double podium finish helped India increase its medal tally to 24, its best ever performance in the history of the Paralympic Games. With five gold medals, India also jumped to 13th position in the medal table at the end of Day 7’s events in Paris.

With Dharambir’s medal in mace throw, India also equalled its record from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics for the most number of golds at a Paralympic Games. Harvinder Singh on Wednesday won India’s first ever gold in archery at an Olympic or Paralympic Games to create history.
