Diamond League 2024 Final: Neeraj Chopra finishes second behind Anderson Peters in Brussels | Other Sports News

On Saturday, Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra fell one centimetre short of victory at the Diamond Trophy at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Chopra’s third attempt of 87.86 metres fell behind Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who managed a throw of 87.87 metres on his first attempt. Germany’s Julian Weber threw 85.97 metres and finished third.

Neeraj, who won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, received $12,000 for finishing second, while Peters, who won the Diamond Trophy for the first time in his career, received $30,000 in prize money. Chopra claimed victory at the Diamond League trophy in 2022 before finishing second last year and managed to seal his place in the Brussels final after finishing fourth in the Diamond League standings. The 26-year-old earned 14 points for his consecutive second-place finishes in Doha and Lausanne.

Earlier, Chopra received a silver medal after throwing the javelin 89.45 metres at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She wrote a historic script when she won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“There is no comparison to a gold medal. Winning two consecutive medals for your country is good and walking around the field with your country’s flag is always a great feeling. But the national anthem was missing when you raise your flag on the podium,” Chopra was quoted as saying by AFP.

Pakistani Arshad Nadeem was the one who won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a solid throw of 92.97 meters.

“I thought I could cover more distance,” he said, commenting on Nadeem’s throw in Paris. “I’ll leave it to God. You just have to prepare well and throw the javelin, and it will come,” he said.
