Neeraj threw the javelin a distance of 87.58 m to win the elusive gold medal. Neeraj’s popularity skyrocketed in India following his success and he is one of the most sought-after celebrities in the country.

In 2021, the Bank of Canada International Trade Commission (BCCI) bought Neeraj’s javelin for a whopping sum. In 2022, PTI reported that the Indian cricket board shelled out a whopping sum of Rs 1.5 crore to buy the javelin with which Neeraj won the historic gold medal in Tokyo.

“BCCI had submitted the winning bid for Neeraj’s javelin but we also bid for a couple of other collectibles. It (Namami Gange) is a noble cause and BCCI officials felt that as one of the apex sporting bodies in the country, we had a duty towards the nation. As an organisation, we are proud to have a sporting asset of one of India’s finest athletes,” a BCCI official told PTI in 2022.

Neeraj continued his good form after his success in Tokyo. He arrived in Paris as the favourite to retain his gold medal. Neera won a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics. The star Indian javelin thrower achieved the best throw of 89.25m.

Neeraj ended up next to Arshad Nadeemwho threw the javelin at a distance of 92.87 m. Arshad finished the competition with another throw of 90 m.

Neeraj tried his best to beat Arshad’s mark but could not complete a legal throw. He had only one legal throw in the final. Neeraj and Arshad will continue their rivalry and face each other in many more competitions. Neeraj enjoys a 9-1 lead in the head-to-head with Arshad. Arshad won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
