X paralyzed the government in Brazil
On Saturday, social media platform X announced it would cease operations in Brazil, citing threats from Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes to arrest its legal representative if the company did not comply with orders.
X said it would withdraw all of its remaining staff from Brazil “with immediate effect,” though it added that services would continue to be available to users in the country. The company did not explain how it plans to stop operations while continuing to offer services to Brazilians.
Earlier this year, the company had a dispute with Judge Moraes over freedom of expression, far-right accounts and misinformation on X. The company called his recent directives censorship and posted a copy of the order on its platform.
