Diwali is one of the most important festivals in India and is celebrated with vibrant festivities, family gatherings and various rituals. In 2024, the holiday schedule for banks varies by state.
This year, Diwali will be celebrated on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Generally, banks in states where Diwali has considerable importance will close on this day. However, the holiday schedule may differ as some states may recognize additional holidays due to regional celebrations that coincide with Diwali.
In states like Maharashtra, gujarat, Delhiand Uttar Pradesh, October 31 is expected to be the main holiday. Some other states may observe November 1 as a holiday for Govardhan Puja, which takes place the day after Diwali. This is particularly relevant in states like Uttar Pradesh, Biharand Rajasthan.
Additionally, on November 2, 2024, banks in some areas may remain closed to commemorate Bhai Dooj, a holiday that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, particularly in northern India.
