Doctors’ strike continues for 13th day against RG tax scandal

Murder of a doctor in Kolkata: The protest by junior doctors against the rape and murder incident of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital continued for the 13th day on Wednesday as health services at government hospitals were severely affected. Officials said that in many hospitals, senior doctors have been asked to be on duty in place of junior doctors.

Doctors’ agitation continues

Along with this, the state government has asked the protesters to resume work. A young doctor said, “Our movement will continue till our sister gets justice. We understand that patients are facing problems, but our demands are justified.” A junior doctor was allegedly raped and then murdered while on duty at the R. G. Kar Government Medical College and Hospital in the city. The doctor’s body was found in the seminary hall and had signs of serious injuries.

Mamata Banerjee: Mamata Banerjee said that there was a loss of Rs 100 crore in the vandalism incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Health services affected

Long queues of patients were seen outside ticket offices at government hospitals and services at outpatient departments (OPDs) and non-emergency units were affected. A senior doctor at the National Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata said, “Till it is confirmed, they will not issue tickets until the doctor concerned is present on duty.” A large number of patients come to the hospital every morning for treatment but there are very few doctors. He said some doctors have postponed many surgeries due to the absence of junior doctors. It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court on Tuesday asked protesting doctors across the country to end the strike and return to work.
