Donald Trump On Wednesday, during a rally in Asheville, North Carolina, Biden outlined his economic agenda and criticized the Biden-Harris administration. Among the highlights of the former president’s speech were “insulin prices” and a small pack of Tic Tacs. During his speech, the Republican candidate pulled out the hard mints to represent “Bidenflation.” He had two different sizes of boxes of TicTac candies to demonstrate the effects of inflation on food.
Trump also falsely claimed that he was responsible for lowering insulin prices for Medicare beneficiaries to $35 per month (per prescription). He said Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are taking credit for his work.
“Kamala and Joe tried to take credit for $35 insulin. Did you know that? Do you know who did it? I did it. I did it. I took the insulin and it started to kick in. And I remember when I did it — it had to be a law, it was a set law that had been around for a while — I said, ‘I hope I get elected because somebody’s going to get a lot of credit for doing what I did.’ I did it, $35 insulin. And now they’re taking credit for it. It’s terrible. Terrible.” He complained that he hadn’t been thanked for his work and then said, “Instead, they’re saying, ‘We brought in $35 insulin. ‘ That’s a lie,” Trump said.
While the former president created a $35 monthly limit on insulin for some people on Medicare, he did not sign a law to ensure the program’s future. Biden, on the other hand, did get a law passed. The law now ensures that all insulin users on Medicare (about 3.4 million Americans) spend no more than $35 a month.
Later during his speech, Donald Trump pulled a pack of Tic Tacs out of his pocket. “This is the best commercial they’ve ever had. This is inflation.” He held up a large pack and a small one for comparison. This is not the first time the 78-year-old has used his Tic Tac tactic at a rally.
