The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has withdrawn a September 2016 office memorandum regarding the extension of the scope of a copyright rule to internet transmissions.

“This is the withdrawal of the Office Memorandum issued by the DPIIT on September 5, 2016, extending the scope of Section 31D to webcasts for the sake of clarity for Indian and foreign webcasting platforms as well as rights holders,” the memorandum dated August 21, 2024, said.
