Admission: Nearly 92 per cent of undergraduate seats in Delhi University filled in first round of admission; 65,800 students admitted

NEW DELHI: Over 65,800 candidates have confirmed their admission to undergraduate (UG) courses in University of Delhi (DU), occupying 91.98 percent of the seats in the first round.

The total number of seats for undergraduate students in DU’s colleges is around 71,600. A senior university official said that out of the 83,678 candidates who accepted their allotted seats, 65,483 have confirmed their admission in the university.

As of 21 August 2024 at 12:00 am, 43,515 candidates have opted to upgrade their university or course preference, while 18,478 have opted to freeze their admission status.

On Friday, the university started the admission process and offered 97,387 seats in the first round of admission. To ensure optimal occupancy of seats, the university administration made additional allocations, with a view to an academic session that will begin on August 29.

Provide an update on the seat acceptance process, Come on dean Director of Admissions Haneet Gandhi said, “A total of 65,483 candidates had confirmed their seats by submitting fees.”

The University is conducting admissions for 71,600 seats (excluding supernumerary seats) in 69 faculties and departments. There are 1,559 programme-faculty combinations available for admission. As per records, 2,45,287 candidates applied for Phase I of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS(UG)), and 1,85,543 applicants completed Phase II by submitting their preferences for programme-faculty combinations. The University received a total of 1,72,18,187 preferences. This year, DU has introduced a feature on the candidate dashboard that allows candidates to view details of cut-off marks and rankings that determine the allotment of seats on the basis of category and quota.
