The actress shared a special bond with many South superstars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and K Balachander. They even had each other’s phone numbers and were close friends.
The bond between Rajinikanth and Sridevi
Rajinikanth and Sridevi have shared the big screen together since the 1976 film Moondru Mudichu In this film, 13-year-old Sridevi made her debut as the female lead. Rajini played the main antagonist and the actress portrayed the role of her stepmother. The two developed a special bond and worked together in 19 films in four languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. He even shared a close bond with Sridevi’s mother and reportedly asked for the actress’s hand in marriage.
In an old interview, filmmaker K Balachander revealed how Rajinikanth went to Sridevi’s house to ask her to marry him. However, when both of them entered his house during their Griha Pravesh ceremony, the house’s electricity went out and darkness enveloped the surroundings and the actor took it as a bad omen.
Sridevi kept fast for Thalaiva
According to media reports, when Rajinikanth fell seriously ill during the shooting of Rana, Sridevi fasted for him. She was very worried about Rajinikanth and prayed to Sai Baba of Shirdi. She fasted for seven days and visited the Sai Baba temple in Pune.
Sridevi passed away at the age of 54 on 24 February 2018 in Dubai.
