Weeks before the Diwali festival of lights, the Narendra Modi government announced bonuses for Indian Railways employees. The Union Cabinet today approved payment of 78-day Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) worth Rs 2,028.57 crore to 11,72,240 railway employees in recognition of excellent performance of railway staff.
“The amount will be paid to various categories of railway staff such as track maintainers, locomotive pilots, train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technical assistants, signallers, ministerial staff and other staff of the XC Group. “The PLB payment acts as an incentive to motivate railway employees to work towards improving the performance of railways,” the government said in a statement.
Payment of PLB to eligible railway employees is made every year before Durga Puja/Dusshera holidays. This year too, an amount of PLB equivalent to 78 days’ salary will be paid to about 11.72 lakh unregistered railway employees.
The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs 17,951 for 78 days. The above amount will be paid to various categories of railway staff such as track maintainers, locomotive pilots, train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technical assistants, signallers, ministerial staff and other Group C staff.
The performance of the Railways in the year 2023-2024 was very good. The railways loaded a record load of 1,588 million tons and transported almost 6.7 billion passengers. “Many factors contributed to this record performance. These include improvement in infrastructure due to infusion of record capital expenditure by the government on railways, efficiency in operations and better technology etc.,” the government said. .
