Education Minister: Meghalaya MBOSE to conduct two SSLC exams from 2025

Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma has announced that the Meghalaya School Education Board will conduct two class 10 or SSLC examinations from next year. The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination will be conducted from 2025. He further told the agency that it was decided to introduce two exams to provide a second chance to students who failed the board exam.

“Starting in early 2025, MBOSE will hold two SSLCs board exams “Every year, the first exam will be held in February or early March, and the second will allow students who fail all or some subjects to retake the exam within a month or two, which will be in May,” Sangma said. This year, the Meghalaya Board conducted the Class 10 exams from March 15 to April 3 for a total of 37,715 students and the HSSLC exam was held from March 1 to 27, 2024.

Along with this, the cabinet also approved the decision to do away with the optional examination or ‘best of five examinations’ from the academic year 2026-2027, which means that all students from 2026-2027 will have to pass all six subjects in the board examination. The Service Rules for Meghalaya Public Schools Service Rules, Meghalaya Subordinate Water Resources Engineering Service Rules, 2024 and the Farmers Empowerment Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024 have also been introduced.
