A day earlier, Moraes had ordered Elon Musk to appoint a legal representative for X in Brazil within 24 hours or risk suspension from the platform, as mandated by a court ruling. Earlier this month, the microblogging site announced plans to shut down operations and lay off staff in Brazil, citing “censorship orders.” Moraes’ Wednesday ruling emphasized that companies found to be violating internet regulations or privacy laws could face temporary suspension under Brazilian law.

The Supreme Court posted a screenshot of the court’s decision on its X account, labeling Musk’s and X’s Global Government Affairs accounts. The tech billionaire tweeted that Moraes “has repeatedly violated the laws he swore to uphold.”
