Right-handed batsman Harry Brook will lead the England team in the upcoming ODI series against Australia in the absence of wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler, who will miss the series after suffering a right calf injury. This will be Brook’s first assignment as captain of the national team in any format, although the 25-year-old has previously led Yorkshire in the T20 Blast and the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
England had to make another change to their line-up as Josh Hull is sidelined with a thigh injury. Hull, who recently made his England debut in the third Test against Sri Lanka, impressed everyone by taking three wickets in the first innings. Instead, Liam Livingstone, who is currently in fine form in the ongoing T20I series, returns to the squad after being initially left out. Livingstone recently expressed his desire to come back strongly, following his impressive performances in a new role as England’s No. 4 in T20Is.
“I don’t really know, that’s one of my challenges. That’s why I’m happy to have the opportunity to bat in the order.” [in the T20Is]”I feel like I’ve shown over the last few weeks, maybe a month, that the longer I bat in games, the more chances I have of affecting games,” Livingstone said when speaking about an ODI comeback, as quoted by the ICC.
“I want to play as much cricket for England as possible. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play ODIs, but it’s not something I’m giving up on. I’ve had a tough couple of years. My body has probably let me down a little bit and I’ve maybe not been at my best physically, with a couple of niggles here and there,” the all-rounder added.
