Joe Root He continued his positive run in Test cricket and hit the 34th century of his career. The right-handed batsman had 32 Test centuries before the start of the second Test match against Sri Lanka. Root hit a brilliant 143 in the first innings and followed it up with a knock of 103 in the second innings to overcome Alastair Cook and become the England batsman with the most centuries in Tests.
Joe Root made history and became the first batsman to score 50 hundreds in international cricket for England. The former England captain already occupied the top spot for England on this list.
It is in ninth place. The list is headed by Sachin Tendulkarwho finished his career with 100 hundreds. The Master Blaster played 664 games.
Sachin is followed by Virat Kohli, who has 80 hundreds in international cricket. Ricky Ponting (71), Kumar Sangakkara (63), Jacques Kallis (62), Hashim Amla (55), Mahela Jayawardene (54) and Brian Lara (53) occupy the next spots on the list respectively. Root can overtake Amla, Jayawardene and Lara in the next year.
In terms of Test hundreds, Root is in sixth place. With 51 Test hundreds, Sachin tops the elite list. He is followed by Kallis (45), Ponting (41), Sangakkara (38) and Rahul Dravid (36).
Root shares sixth place with Younis Khan, Sunil Gavaskar, Brian Lara and Jayawardene. With 33 Test tons, Alastair Cook is just behind Root.
With a win in the second Test match at Lord’s, England secured an unassailable 2-0 lead and are now aiming for a whitewash. The third and final Test match of the series will be played from 6 to 10 September at the Kennington Oval. A day after the end of the match, England will host Australia in the first T20I of the three-match series in Southampton.
