India is such a vast repository of history, culture and heritage that it can easily become one of the top 10 tourist destinations in the world, an industry executive said at a panel discussion on “Beyond Borders: Driving India Tourism on the Global Map.” But it needs to develop infrastructure and improve accessibility with features like e-visas to attract more foreign travelers, they said.

“This is the first time that independent India has seen such a push or focus on infrastructure development, both from the government and the private sector, such as road network, upgrading of railway stations, world-class airports, sports stadiums and convention centres,” he said. “With the fleet size and network of Indian airlines increasing, airlines can become customer-centric by using AI,” said Neelu Khatri, co-founder, Akasa Air. “Customer care based on digitalisation and AI techniques… Can we create an AI mechanism for hyper-focused passenger services?”

Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, promoter of HRH Group of Hotels, said that while leveraging AI and technology is important, hospitality is about connecting people.

“Talking about health and hospitality is something that can be touched, something that can be felt, something that can be seen,” he said.
