Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton

Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton died, a team member and several of his teammates confirmed Saturday afternoon. The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed he was fatally shot in Greensboro around 2:30 a.m. local time Friday.
Statement: Sheriff Danny H. Rogers reports that on September 7, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., deputies responded to a call of a loud party and noise disturbance at 3205 Spring Mill Road, Greensboro, NC 27406. While en route to the location, deputies received updated information indicating a shooting had occurred at the location.
Upon arrival, officers located the shooting victim and identified him as 26-year-old Diondre Overton. Despite immediate medical assistance, Overton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation suggests this incident is isolated. This remains an active and ongoing homicide investigation.

“The Clemson football team and the entire Clemson family mourn the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton. Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” Clemson wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“I’m heartbroken and wanted to wait to post this, but last night the Clemson family lost former Tiger Diondre Overton in a shooting in Greensboro. Please pray for the Overton family and our Clemson family during this tragic time,” one person wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Another ardent fan of X wrote, “Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton has reportedly passed away due to a shooting that occurred last night. My prayers are with the Overton family. Diondre will be fondly remembered by the Clemson family and he was taken from us too soon due to a senseless tragedy. May he rest in peace❤️.”
Overton won two national championships with the Tigers. He caught 52 career passes for 777 yards and seven touchdowns.
