Except for language, examinations for other subjects will have to be conducted in Hindi or English only.

Chief Correspondent, Dhanbad.

At Binod Bihari Mahato Koylanchal University (BBMKU), no language other than Hindi or English will be allowed to be used in any subject except for language subjects in the UG level examination. This decision was taken in the 17th Academic Council meeting held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ram Kumar Singh. Earlier, the Department of Bengali and Urdu had submitted a proposal before the Academic Council that except the optional paper (language) in the postgraduate level examination, students can appear for the examination of other subjects in Bengali, Urdu or other regional languages. But not all the councillors agreed to this proposal. A vote was later held on this proposal, in which the proposal of both the departments was rejected by 16 votes to seven.

The theoretical-practical work code was modified:

Along with this, the Academic Council also approved the proposal to change the code of theory and practical work of the PG Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management of the University. Now the code of the theoretical work has been changed from 414 C to 414 A, while the code of the practical work has been changed from 415 C to 415 A.

Changes in the reference system:

The proposal to change the referencing system of the Mathematics Department was also approved at the meeting. Earlier students had to give references from the American Mathematics System only. Now students can also give references from the American Psychological Association. The proposal to convert the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science taught at PK Roy Memorial College into Bachelor (Hons.) in Computer Science has already been approved. However, no change has been made in its credit system.

Approval granted for its regulation:

The Academic Council has decided to follow the syllabus and regulation of the Bachelor of Pharmacy course conducted in the University as prescribed by the Pharmacy Council of India. Along with this, it was decided to follow the syllabus and regulation of the Bachelor of Nursing course conducted in the university as decided by the Nursing Council of India. The Academic Council approved the draft of the new education policy prepared on the instructions of the state government. Now, after approval of this draft by the union, it will be sent to the state government.

Now the best students will receive a scholarship based on their merit:

The rules for scholarships awarded to top PG students have been changed. Till now, the scholarship is awarded to the second ranked student or in case of rejection of the first ranked student. But if the second ranked student refuses then this scholarship will not be awarded to anyone but this will not happen now. The Academic Council has approved the proposal for amendment of its rules. Now, as per the new rule, the scholarship will be awarded to any student who is ranked third, fourth, fifth or sixth or on the basis of merit respectively. Along with this, it has also been decided that if a student drops out of this scholarship programme midway through the 12 months, the next meritorious student in his place will be given the scholarship for the remaining period.

Approval granted for registration of researchers of the Department of Hindi:

Along with this, the Academic Council also approved the re-registration of three research scholars from the Hindi Department after much controversy. Apart from the Vice-Chancellor, DSW Dr. Pushpa Kumari, all the Deans, Heads of Departments, Principal of SSLNT Women’s College Dr. Sharmila Rani and all other members were present in the Academic Council meeting.
