For many couples struggling with infertility, in vitro fertilization (IVF) has emerged as a ray of hope. While IVF is an attractive avenue for child-rearing, couples need to keep a number of considerations in mind before embarking on this procedure as it can affect the outcome of the treatment. Times Now Digital spoke to Dr Bharati Dhorepatil, Expert Infertility Consultant, NOVA IVF Fertility, Pune, to understand the factors that can affect the outcome of IVF. IVF treatment.

  1. Age of the woman:The age of the woman receiving IVF treatment is one of the most important elements influencing the effectiveness of the procedure. The probability of success is highest for women under 35 and decreases rapidly with age. This is mainly because as women age, their eggs become fewer in number and of poorer quality. Early intervention is essential as the IVF success rate decreases dramatically after age 40.
  2. Quality of embryos:The success of IVF depends largely on the quality of the embryos used in the procedure. High-quality embryos have a higher chance of successfully implanting in the uterus and resulting in a pregnancy. Embryo quality can be affected by a variety of factors, including genetic disorders. To screen embryos for potential problems, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is a common method.
  3. Ovarian reserve: This describes the number of eggs remaining in a woman’s ovaries. The chance of obtaining healthy, viable eggs during the stimulation phase of IVF is better in women with a greater ovarian reserve, as they are likely to develop more eggs during this period. Before IVF begins, hormonal tests such as antral follicle count (AFC) and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels are frequently performed to assess ovarian reserve.
  4. Sperm quality:While IVF is largely focused on the woman, the quality of the man’s sperm is equally important. The likelihood of successful fertilization can be reduced by abnormal sperm morphology, low sperm count, or poor motility. For best results in such situations, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI, may be recommended.
  5. Uterine Health:For the embryo to implant successfully, a healthy uterus is necessary. A thin endometrium, fibroids, polyps, and other conditions can interfere with implantation and reduce the chances of a healthy pregnancy. To optimize uterine health before and during in vitro fertilization (IVF), routine checkups and appropriate medications are necessary.
  6. Lifestyle Factors:Avoiding smoking, excessive drinking, being overweight or being stressed can all have a negative impact on the outcome of IVF treatments. Positivity can be increased by leading a healthy lifestyle that includes stress reduction practices, a balanced diet and regular exercise.

However, it is important to note that while IVF provides confidence for many people, couples can improve their ability to manage their fertility process and increase their chances of achieving their dream of parenthood by understanding and addressing the elements that determine its effectiveness.
