The first North London Derby of the 2024/25 season will take place on Sunday (September 15) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Arsenal Travel to the home of their biggest rivals in a vital match in the English Premier League as both teams are aiming to gain bragging rights early in the season.
While the encounter remains one of the biggest spectacles of the season, it will be a major change of perspective as, for the first time in 38 years, Arsenal will not be wearing their home kit for the game. Instead, the three-time Premier League champions will wear their black away kit.
Why don’t Arsenal wear their home kit against Tottenham?
The PGMOL and the Premier League have determined that Arsenal’s home shirt for the 2024-25 season has “too much white” in it, meaning it will clash with Tottenham’s home shirt, which is traditionally all white. Arsenal will therefore have to wear their away shirt for today’s encounter. Later in the season, when the two teams meet at the Emirates Stadium in the return leg, Tottenham will have to wear their away shirt for the same reason.
Arsenal started the season with back-to-back wins against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa. However, the title contenders suffered a setback before the international break, as they drew 1-1 with Brighton at home, with Declan Rice receiving a red card. Meanwhile, Tottenham have had a disappointing start to the season, with just one win from three games, after drawing and losing one game each.
