Fadnavis: BJP leadership will decide on Khadse’s reinstatement after the festival | Political News

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the party’s central leadership will take a decision on rejoining NCP (SP) leader Eknath Khadse to the BJP after the ongoing Ganesh festival. He also said farmers will benefit immensely from the Centre’s decision to increase customs duty on crude and refined sunflower and soyabean oils.

Speaking to reporters at Nagpur airport, while responding to a question on Khadse’s possible return to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Fadnavis said, “Whatever decision the BJP central leadership takes, it will be accepted. We will hold discussions with the party leadership and a decision will be taken after the ongoing Ganesh festival.”

Speculations about the return of Khadse, a former BJP leader who is currently with the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, to the saffron party intensified after the BJP re-nominated his daughter-in-law Raksha Khadse as a Lok Sabha candidate and made her the Union Minister of State after she won.

However, the BJP is yet to announce anything in this regard, despite Khadse signalling his willingness earlier this year. Speaking to a regional news channel earlier this week, Khadse said, “I was not very keen on returning to the BJP, but senior party leaders insisted on it.

When I met BJP president JP Nadda, he congratulated me with a scarf and told me that I had become a part of the BJP. Khadse joined the undivided Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in October 2020 after quitting the BJP. He then accused Fadnavis of trying to destroy his political career.

Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis welcomed the increase in basic customs duty on crude and refined sunflower and soybean oils. On Friday, the government had increased basic customs duty on crude palm, soybean and sunflower oil from zero to 20 per cent, and basic customs duty on refined palm, soybean and sunflower oil from 12.5 per cent to 32.5 per cent.
