With garlic prices skyrocketing, citizens are finding it difficult to purchase this kitchen staple. Taking advantage of the situation, some unscrupulous traders have started selling fake garlic, duping innocent citizens. In a shocking incident, the wife of Subhash Patil, a retired police officer, was duped by a street vendor selling fake garlic.
Patil’s wife had bought 250 grams of garlic from the seller and found that one of them was made of cement, Zee Taas reported. When she tried to peel the garlic, the layers did not separate and when she cut it with a knife, she found that it was made of cement with a white coating. The fake garlic weighed around 100 grams.

In Akola, garlic prices range between Rs 300 and Rs 350 per kilo, prompting some traders to resort to selling fake garlic to make quick money. Citizens are advised to be careful when buying garlic from local vendors to avoid being cheated.
The incident has raised concerns about the presence of counterfeit products on the market and citizens are demanding action be taken against those responsible.
