A man is looking down divorce with his wife after leaving home early with his family vacation because her mother-in-law used her toothpasteThe vacation that began in Venice, Italy, ended up being the reason for the couple’s ongoing separation.
The man, who said he was the “sole breadwinner” of the family, had not originally included his wife’s mother in the plan, but the couple ended up taking her after she mentioned that her dream was to go to Venice.
They also have a 5-year-old daughter, who he thought would share a separate room with his mother-in-law. What he didn’t know was that his partner would book a room with two queen beds instead of two with one king bed each.
“I planned it to be a romantic getaway and I didn’t want my daughter in the room with us. We could easily afford two rooms, but my wife also wanted to keep an eye on her,” he explained.
“To make matters worse, my mother-in-law was constantly in my space. I also had to share all of my wife’s expensive products (facial cleanser, shampoo, lotion, etc.).”
From that point on, it was a slippery slope of invasion of privacy.
On one occasion, the couple was returning to the hotel from the city and found their daughter sitting on the bed with her maternal grandmother, who her father said was “unhygienic.” The mother-in-law then allegedly searched her suitcase for a hair tie.
“The final straw was when I woke up in the morning and saw that my mother-in-law had forgotten something again,” she continued.
“For the past few days, he has been sharing the same toothpaste as my wife and I. I don’t like the idea of him putting his toothbrush near (or even on) the toothpaste nozzle and it made me sick to think about it more. I asked MIL if the only reason he came was to take advantage of me and my wife since he didn’t pay for any of the expenses (hotel, utilities, food), just his own plane tickets.”
The man said he had politely asked her to do so several times, but with little success. If anything, the decision backfired, as the mother-in-law became angry and told his wife, who then yelled at her.
He then decided to reschedule his plane ticket and returned straight home.
Later, in an update, the user informed Reddit that his wife has since been ignoring his calls, while his mother is now looking into divorce proceedings.
