Afghanistan recorded their first ever win against South Africa in the first ODI match in Sharjah on Wednesday, September 18. With most players absent from the series, South Africa were bowled out for just 106 against Afghanistan’s impressive bowling attack.

The Afghan team led by Hashmatullah Shahidi also struggled early in the chase but managed to register an impressive six-wicket win to create history. In-form player Fazalhaq Farooqi emerged as the top bowler with four wickets while young spinner Allah Gazanfar took three for Afghanistan.

Afghanistan had failed to beat South Africa in two ODIs and three T20Is but excelled in all aspects at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium to end their wait for a first-ever win against the Proteas.
