This film of director Bilal Lashri has already received a lot of appreciation all over the world. There is a buzz in the industry that Zee Studios, one of India’s biggest film studios, is going to present this great Pakistani film to the Indian audience on 20 September 2024.

Fawad Khan’s film, released in 2022, broke all the old records of earnings of Pakistani films. Made at a cost of 45-55 crore Pakistani rupees, this film did a business of more than Rs 250 crore (Pak) in its first theatrical run. After its first run, the film has been re-released at different places in the worldwide market and its total worldwide collection is more than Rs 400 crore (Pak).
Punjabi films are made in both India and Pakistan. There were also reports about the India release of ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ in 2022. It was said in the reports that the film will be released in India on December 23, 2022. But problems arose even before its release. A leader of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had threatened about its release.
MNS leader Amey Khopkar was unhappy with the release of the Pakistani film in Indian theatres. He issued a statement on social media and issued a threat.
Amey said that his party will not allow a Pakistani film starring a Pakistani actor to be released in India. As per the orders of party president Raj Thackeray, MNS will not allow this film to be screened anywhere in India. Also, in another tweet, Amey taunted Fawad Khan’s fans and called them ‘traitors’. He wrote, ‘Fawad Khan’s fans, traitors can go to Pakistan and watch the film.’
The court in India has lifted the ban on Pakistani artists
After the Uri terrorist attack in 2016, Pakistani artists were banned from working in India. Citing ‘security’ and ‘patriotism’, the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association made a rule that they would not allow talent from across the border to work in India. After which artists like Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan were not seen working in Bollywood.
In October 2023, the Bombay High Court lifted the ban and called it ‘detrimental to cultural harmony, unity and peace’. The court also said that opposing foreigners, especially citizens of neighboring countries, does not show patriotism.
After the court’s decision, the doors opened for Pakistani artists to work in Indian films, but till now no big Pakistani artist has returned to Indian films. However, if ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ is released in theaters on the scheduled release date, then the atmosphere regarding artists working cross-border can definitely change. Talking about Fawad Khan, his latest web series ‘Barzakh’ has also been liked a lot by the public in India and his work has been praised a lot.
