Ferguson Police Chief Troy Doyle said Officer Travis Brown suffered a serious brain injury Friday after being slammed to the ground.

The team of officers were out on Friday making arrests for destruction of property at the police station, where protesters gathered to remember Michael Brown, the unarmed black 18-year-old who was killed by Darren Wilson, a white police officer in 2014.

The protest began as a rally, with traffic detoured as about 40 people gathered outside police headquarters, drinking beer and eating food, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. reported.
“We wanted to give peaceful protesters the space to do that,” police spokeswoman Pat Washington said Saturday morning.
