‘The fight is not over…’: Vinesh Phogat’s big comment on the future of wrestling and the turn towards retirement on the cards.

Vinesh Phogat He suffered a huge heartbreak in the Paris Olympics After being stripped of a guaranteed silver medal, Vinesh was assured of a silver medal and had gold in her sights after she stormed into the finals of the wrestling event, defeating even Olympic champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the first round, however, she was disqualified before the final bout as she was found to be 100 grams overweight than the permissible limit. A dejected Vinesh appealed her disqualification at the Court of Arbitration (CAS) and demanded a joint silver medal, however, her plea was dismissed. Vinesh shocked the sporting fraternity and announced her retirement from professional wrestling.

Meanwhile, Vinesh also dropped a big hint about her retirement and said that she cannot confirm whether she has quit wrestling or will return. Vinesh said that the Paris Olympics left a deep wound in her and it will take time to heal. She said that she is not sure about her future and does not know whether she will quit wrestling or continue. Vinesh’s statement reflects that the decision to announce her retirement might have been triggered by the heat of the moment and that there is scope for her to return to wrestling.

“This Olympic medal has become a deep wound… it will take time to heal but I want to thank the people of my country… I cannot say anything right now whether I have stopped (wrestling) or will continue… our struggle is not over. I have just crossed a part of it (wrestling) and now I am coming… this is a long struggle, we have been fighting it since last year and it will continue,” Vinesh told ANI.
