Andaman Tour Operators Association President Mohan Vinod on Saturday said that after a long wait, international flights will be started from Port Blair airport and the first flight is scheduled for November 16.
Speaking to ANI, Vinod said, “After a long wait, we are happy to announce that we have taken the decision to start international flights from Port Blair Airport. The first flight is from asian water and is scheduled for November 16. We would like to thank the government and Air Asia for helping us.”
He further said that tourism in Port Blair has been badly affected due to lack of flights and added that they hope that international flights will bring more tourists.
“The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on June 21, 2023. Since that day, we have been waiting for this. Tourism has been affected by flights. Now that we have announced international flights, we hope that more tourists will come and tourism will increase in Port Blair. We would like to thank Air Asia and the people for cooperating with us,” he added.
Earlier on April 30, Veer Savarkar International Airport started night operations after major upgrades and developments. On April 18, a private airline was the first to land using the ILS at VSI Airport. Aviation infrastructure in INS Utkrosh Significant progress has been made at Port Blair, with upgrades enabling the airport to handle both day and night operations.
The modernisation effort, under Project MAFI (Modernisation of Airfield Infrastructure), was conceived at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi and executed under the supervision of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC).
